Moving Contact Line Instability on Soluble Fibers

چکیده

Abstract This paper presents a new kind of instability when inserting soluble fiber into liquid. After wetting and dissolving the by liquid, moving contact line (MCL) spontaneously loses stability. Because sculpted shape looks like Chinese pagoda, this is named as pagoda (PI). The coupling dissolution leads to other special phenomena, i.e., dissolving‐induced jet flow, optimizes shape, etc. A criterion PI proposed competition between interfacial energy chemical potential deduce MCL motion shown. phase diagram used summarize final shapes fibers. By conducting atomic force microscopy (AFM) measurements, it found that fibers with optimized have low adhesion force. Using can decrease influence capillary during AFM measurements in humid environments 70%.

Hydrodynamic Instability of Liquid Films on Moving Fibers.

The stability of liquid films on moving fibers is studied with a focus on effects caused by film-solid adhesion interactions and hydrodynamic interactions between the film and the surrounding gas. We show that at high fiber velocities (large Reynolds numbers) the film-gas hydrodynamic interactions induce instability in films, which would, otherwise, be stabilized by the adhesion interactions at...

Moving contact line of a volatile fluid.

Interfacial flows close to a moving contact line are inherently multiscale. The shape of the interface and the flow at meso- and macroscopic scales inherit an apparent interface slope and a regularization length, both named after Voinov, from the microscopic inner region. Here, we solve the inner problem associated with the contact line motion for a volatile fluid at equilibrium with its vapor....

Taming contact line instability for pattern formation

Coating surfaces with different fluids is prone to instability producing inhomogeneous films and patterns. The contact line between the coating fluid and the surface to be coated is host to different instabilities, limiting the use of a variety of coating techniques. Here we take advantage of the instability of a receding contact line towards cusp and droplet formation to produce linear pattern...

Transient Amplification and Contact Line Instability

Instability in spreading thin liquid films arises from the influence of a driving force and results in the distortion of the leading edge of the film (the contact line). We study this instability in thin films placed on a horizontal substrate and driven by an induced surface tension gradient. We achieve controlled evolution of the contact line distortion by imposing optical perturbations behind...

Solvability condition for the moving contact line.

We consider the motion of a contact line between a fluid, gas, and solid, as it occurs when a drop advances over a solid surface. This motion is controlled by a microscopic length scale near the contact line, such as a slip length or the precursor thickness. The capillary profile inside the drop is linked to the contact line through an intermediate region which is characterized by an interface ...
